Zorb Ball

Is Zorbing a sport? Well it can be used as a race, so I would consider it a sport. A Zorb ball is a sphere, well actually its a sphere inside a sphere that a person gets into. The little sphere that is inside the big sphere is separated by flexible spokes that keeps them separated and absorbs the shocks from the bounces and bumps.

Years ago, children would go down to the local laundry mat, and adjust the dryer setting so that the heat would be off. Children would then jump in the dryer and spin until they couldn't handle the spin anymore. Now that crazy laundry mat experience has turned into and outdoor adventure sport called Zorbing. The concept is almost the same. You get into a giant sphere and spin down a hill or roll on a flat surface.

This sport first received international attention from a television episode on MTV's Road Rules. On this show, about 7 people would travel around in a RV and had the opportunity to do many cool and exciting things. One of the episodes, filmed in New Zealand had the RV roll up to the top of a hill at a Zorb Ball resort. The participants rolled down the hill and had lots of fun doing it, there was even an argument at the end of the episode, because one the cast members wanted to go down the hill one more time, while others, were tired and wanted to go home.

Zorbing is going to get a lot more international attention very soon. So, far this is just a rumor, but rumor has it, the amazing Zorb Ball is going to be featured in the 2014 Sochi, Russia Olympics. That kind of attention with the world watching is sure to propel the sport to new levels.

If your interested in Zorbing for the first time, or would like to get your friends involved, chances are a Zorbing resort is opening up near you. Zorb parks have opened up in the Northeast US and the Smoky Mountains. Ski resorts are finding that Zorbing is a great summer event to offer some much-needed income when the skis and snowboards are packed away in peoples attics.

Now is the perfect opportunity to get into this trendy new adventure sport. Before it becomes a household name after the 2014 Olympics. If you choose to buy your own Zorb, you can simply take it to a park and ride all day and have fun with your friends.
